Dave Reynolds and his wife moved into this single storey bungalow in Woking, Surrey just over a year ago. The property was is generally good condition but the couple planned to modernise the décor first before turning their attention to a new kitchen and bathroom at some point in the future.
Dave explained, “We weren’t looking for a project when we bought this house, but did want to put our own stamp on things as we have no intention to move again for a long time.”
The hall and lounge had typical 1970’s parquet wood blocks, which the couple decided they would keep so they cracked on with painting and decorating the living spaces and bedrooms.
“We thought keeping the parquet floors would be a nice idea, but they were really dark and worn. Once we had decorated everywhere else fresh and modern the brown tones of the old parquet just didn’t suit the space, and almost felt a bit oppressive every time we walked back it the house.”
The couple decided it would be well worth the investment to install new wood floors and complete the new contemporary fresh feel they wanted for the home.
“A friend of the family was visiting and when we mentioned we were looking at new wood floors they recommended V4 Wood Flooring. We looked on line and saw lots of styles we liked so visited our nearest retailer to have a look at their larger samples first hand.”
Having looked at the ranges available they were drawn to the new Landscapes collection. The nature of the oversized engineered oak boards gives an impressive scale to any size room to promote a light and spacious feel.
“We loved that you could feel the natural contour of the grain in the wood which gives the boards a lovely character, whilst still being contemporary in tone. We chose Water Meadow because it had a really calming light oak tone, quite the contrast to the old dark blocks.”
Having made their choice the couple decided to also replace the old carpets in the bedrooms and have the same wood floor installed.
Installed by Past & Present the wood floors flow from room to room without any transitions to create a seamless floor throughout the house. This combined with the larger sized boards has opened up the spaces.
“We absolutely love it, and are so pleased we decided to install it in the bedrooms too. Even though we haven’t got underfloor heating, the planks are naturally warm underfoot, and comfortable too, they feel soft to the touch.
“Keeping them clean is really simple, a quick sweep is really all it needs on a regular basis, and occasionally we go over it with the Wood’s Good natural cleaning kit to clean up any marks.”
