Alpine Lock in Silver Sands completes modern wood floor styling throughout a Hampton home

AL104 Silver Sands

This beautiful home in Hampton, Greater London, has undergone a complete renovation and extension to the ground floor rear to create a stunning home which features Alpine Lock Silver Sands wood floors throughout the living and bedroom spaces. The new owners moved into the property at the start of summer and in just two and half months have created a contemporary and stylish home. ā€œThe house has a lovely detached position at the end of the road, and offered good living space and four good sized bedrooms. However it had been neglected, felt very tired and dirty, and we were keen to get cracking and start the renovation as soon as possible. We instructed local builders and they got work underway in July. Top of the list was the biggest job, re-configuring the downstairs spaces at the rear of the home and extending it to create a lovely open plan living and kitchen space, and also fit in a handy utility room."

“The house layout was staying the same upstairs so once the two bathrooms were upgraded, flooring for upstairs was next on my design list. We have spent the last 19 years living overseas, where carpet is not a typical flooring choice in the home, and I was reluctant to go the route of carpet upstairs, Iā€™m just not a fan. Weā€™d shopped around looking at laminate and solid wood options ā€“ but it was actually our builder who recommended we consider an engineered wood floor.”

With this in mind they visited their local flooring retailer in nearby Richmond, Ashburn Carpets, to look at options. As a V4 approved retailer large samples of the V4 engineered wood flooring collection were available to view and they were instantly drawn to the new Alpine Lock Silver Sands boards.

ā€œWhile I was sold on all the benefits of opting for an engineered wood floors upstairs, I actually didnā€™t want anything that had a classic oak wood colour or tone. The plan was to complete the house with a palette primarily made up of soft grey tones and I wanted a floor that would blend naturally with this.ā€

The new Alpine Lock collection features a palette of four wood floors tones that deliver subtle shades and a glueless installation system. The colour tones have been created to offer soft, understated warmth and character for a contemporary flooring finish. A water based top coat lacquer adds to the smooth contemporary effect and delivers an easy to maintain surface finish. Silver sands featuresĀ ripples of soft silvery grey tones along the grains which create a beautiful muted affect. Understated yet striking the boards deliver naturally calming tones.

Alpine Lock introduces our first glueless locking system wood floor range. The oak top layer is applied to a 5Gc glueless locking profile. This appears similar to a traditional tongue and groove base, however the planks click into place to lock together tightly, removing the need for glue or screws to secure the boards in place. Having completed the wood floors throughout the upstairs bedrooms and landing the original intention downstairs was to sand back the original wood floors already in place and stain them in a similar colour. The builder presented various finish options but nothing quite felt right.

ā€œI think I was just so happy with how the floors looked upstairs, and even though it wasnā€™t our original plan, I was lying in bed one night looking at the new V4 floors and just said to my partner, letā€™s finish the whole house with the Alpine wood floors.ā€

ā€œIā€™m so glad we did. The whole style and colour palette of the home comes together beautiful now with the soft muted tones of the wood flooring, and I love the seamless flow the house has, from downstairs to upstairs. The builderā€™s carpenter did an amazing job boxing the stairs in with the Alpine wood planks.”

Inspired by the seamless design of the floor finish the paving area outside new bi-fold doors was selected to match the same colour tones as Silver Sands to keep the transition to outside equally seamless. “We did opt for tiles in the kitchen area, but again we chose a matching tone to the wood floors. And Iā€™ve added some beautiful Persian rugs dotted around the living spaces and bedrooms, just to add a little bit of warmth and texture. We are delighted with the results and so glad we decided to go with these wood floors throughout the renovated home. My builders worked a miracle completing the project in less than three months, and while it was messy and stressful at times, we are thrilled with the end results. We absolutely love how the wood floors look and have a forever home designed to last.ā€
