The Old Cellar on Ripley High Street has been transformed into a Wine Boutique providing artisan spirits, boutique wines, a delicatessen and events. Set in a relaxed atmosphere, the quirky and eclectic design scheme creates the perfect backdrop for sampling the best in wine and produce sourced locally and globally by their expert in house team of sommeliers.
When the owners created the concept the interior setting was a huge consideration.
“We wanted customers to feel like they had been transported into a totally unique environment, with a relaxed, boutique feel that was mirrored by an array of hand selected products ranging from quality wines, ales, spirits, specialist cigars and an ever-developing range of delicious meats, cheeses, olives and chutneys.
“The intention from the start was to also host intimate events here, from wine tasting evenings, supper clubs and pop-up restaurants, as well as making the Boutique available for corporate, private and celebration events. We wanted it to be a place to unwind, relax and enjoy – and the interior design was vital in creating the right atmosphere for that.”
An eclectic design style has been created, with a mix of old furniture, wardrobes, dressers and even trunk suitcases coming together to give the space a completely unique personality.
Having decided on a wood floor for the shop the team wanted it to continue that character and originality, and work naturally with all the other authentic and classic elements.
“I knew of V4 Woodflooring and the quality of their wood floors, so was happy to head straight to their latest collections to pick the perfect floor for here. I was immediately drawn to the rustic and characterful nature of Urban Nature Oak Rustic Fired Brick. It had a lovely warm oak finish and the feeling of an authentic aged wood, which was in absolute keeping with the overall design theme.”
Cellar Wines has had Urban Nature Fired Brick wood floors installed throughout the shop and its quirky entertaining spaces. The timber of the Fired Brick boards is selected for its character filled knots and natural blemishes which are filled and then sanded individually to leave open knots and holes which give the appearance of an aged and weathered plank.
The Fired Brick top layer is given a deep lustre with the application of colour oils which are UV cured to build up a natural protective surface which delivers rich oak tones along with providing durable, long lasting wood floors.
The finished flooring has given the perfect backdrop to the almost den like spaces, which promote a natural desire to explore and while away the hours sourcing – and sampling – handpicked produce you are unlikely to ever discover in your everyday high street shop.
