This stunning installation story comes from the home of Pauline Harward and her family in Woking Surrey. Having purchased their home some 13 years ago the Harward’s were undertaking a complete renovation of the house.
“The project was major, we moved out for seven months while the whole of the house was reconfigured to create more open plan living space in place of the collection of small rooms we had. I wanted much more light, a central open plan kitchen, a bright welcoming hallway and a wood burner in the living room.”

Pauline, who has a keen eye for design, wanted a natural floor with a timeless aesthetic to add a cohesive element throughout the ground floor of their home.
“I wanted to have a traditional style with a modern twist, and after a bit of deliberation I decided to go for the Eiger Petit Golden Stained Oak Rustic floor. I loved the fact that it looked so natural and has knots and quirky changes in finish and tone that make it appear so authentic and not factory produced. Not only this, it is also particularly durable which was important to us as this is our long term family home where we plan to be for years.”
The Eiger Petit Oak Golden Stained, Brushed & UV Oiled floor has a 5 mm rustic oak top layer that is rolled with steel brushes to take away the softer grain whilst following the contours of the natural grain. The result is an enhanced surface texture which becomes tactile underfoot and extremely durable to everyday scratches. The brushed surface is further enhanced and protected by coats of coloured oil.
“Our carpenter, who is experienced at fitting floors, installed the floor and he did a fantastic job, the neat finish is excellent. The floor has been great to live with as it’s so easy to keep clean and maintain. Having the same floor throughout the downstairs creates a lovely continuous flow to the house and helps provide the light and spacious feel we wanted.”
