First time buyers renovate their home to create a seamless monochrome design with Foundry Steel Herringbone

When James and Luke brought their first home together, they were determined to create the perfect space. Through using V4’s Foundry Steel engineered oak herringbone, a perfect monochrome design was created.

When James and his partner first moved into their home, the décor was not to their taste. With very similar colours throughout each wall and carpet, the couple decided to put their own mark on things and redecorate. Wanting a fresh start, they began to design their ideal monochrome décor using darker wood floors that would perfectly complement lighter coloured walls and furniture.

“Before we even brought the house, I kind of had an idea of what I wanted in terms of the look and the feel. The flooring we went with from V4 flooring was exactly what we wanted. I wanted something dark in a herringbone pattern. We were on the lookout for this from the get-go and after looking around different places we came across V4’s Deco Parquet collection from Floors2Go… We’ve got a lot of monochrome greys, so we wanted something dark as the sofa was grey and the walls were white so wanted something to contrast the colours a little bit.”

Keen to construct a seamless design, James decided to have the flooring laid throughout the entire home, allowing one room to flow continuously into the next, to not only create a perfect design, but to create the illusion of a larger room, uninterrupted by different flooring styles. Additionally, the couple decided to convert their garage into a dining room, to create a larger space that was in keeping with their monochrome design.

To create their contrasting design, James chose V4’s Foundry Steel herringbone from our Deco Parquet collection. V4’s Foundry Steel is 100% FSC certified, meaning that choosing this product is not only a great choice for you, but also the planet. Another sustainable benefit of engineered oak wood flooring is that the carbon found in wood is locked into each board, as opposed to being released into the atmosphere. Each engineered oak rustic block is distressed, stained and UV oiled to create an authentic aged appearance, making it the perfect choice for a busy home, such as James and Luke’s with their dog Max.

“We have a miniature schnauzer called max. He hates laminate flooring, so that was another reason why we wanted a wooden floor as it’s pet friendly. I’ve had a few people ask me on Instagram about the flooring and where we got it from. A few of the questions have been ‘is it pet friendly?’. Max runs, fetches skids and slides and there are no scratches whatsoever which is fantastic as the last thing that we want is scratches and marks, it’s really pet friendly.”

James and Luke purchased their engineered oak herringbone through Flooring 2 Go, which was then fitted by external fitters within two days who did an excellent job at levelling the floor from the converted basement into the pre-existing rooms. Having had an interest in herringbone for a long time, “It’s one of the best decisions we made for the house so far. It was a big change, but it made such a difference, even when they started to put it down it just made the house come altogether… it was so nice.”

James explains that their V4 wood flooring has “100% lived up to our expectations”, before going on to say:

“We’re really happy with the flooring, the colour and how it all just flows. It just all looks so nice, and we are really happy with it. A lot of people comment on it when they come over. It’s one of the top 10 things we wanted to do when we moved in, as soon as we saw the floor 2 years ago… we knew where we were going to get it from and that the quality and colour was just spot on”.
