Liverpool riverside apartment features stunning open plan industrial living design, complete with wall cladding from V4

PL4 Cracked Oak

Located in Wapping Quay, with stunning docks and riverside views, the Grade II listed building dates back to the 1856, and this history is still evident in the unique building features, high ceilings and warehouse styles that remain in the now newly renovated apartment.

The property belongs to Mark Wright. With a background working in construction, he had a clear vision when he set about renovating the flat to create an ultra-modern apartment.

“I wanted to create a completely open plan layout in line with modern building concepts, but do this with complete sympathy to the original features, exposed brick and industrial features of the historic building.”

The renovation design focused on knocking through the original apartment and making better use of its high ceilings to create a contemporary and light open plan layout throughout which included a new mezzanine style second level.

A grand entrance from dock side leads into the centre of the home. To one side of this is now a long galley styled kitchen, with an additional kitchen space tucked into a lower floor level. On the opposite side, an open plan living space with dining feels homely, with modern features blending with the original exposed brick and beams that feature throughout the space.

A second bedroom and bathroom is nestled away on the ground floor, and as you head up to the new mezzanine level a stunning master bedroom suite, including a freestanding bath greets you, with social views over the downstairs living area.  A smart home office completes the mezzanine design. The space is flooded with the natural light from the original full height windows which face out to the waters edge.

The main stairway up to the mezzanine now features a striking wooden feature wall which provides a natural contrast to the exposed brick. Created with our Panneau Cracked Oak wooden wall panels the feature wall adds another element of depth and interest to the design, with the striking surface drawing you up to the mezzanine level, making it become part of the overall space.

The Panneau Collection is made from reclaimed and recycled timber. Due to the recycled nature of the product each panel is distinctive and original and features variations in tone and colour that are played out on the warp and weave of the wood. The colours and grain change according to the light in the room and present a high-end and distinctive look and style.  The choice of Cracked oak for the apartments feature wall delivers a highly natural finish, created from cut strips of cured European oak which are split and cracked to form a rough hewned surface that delivers the very raw and natural feel.

Mark is delighted with the finished apartment.

“To see my vision a reality is incredibly rewarding. I feel I have created a totally unique space which combines modern living with all the authentic elements of the original space in this listed building. The mix of surface finishes, both original and new, add texture and character, creating some natural zoning to the different spaces whilst maintaining the open plan feel. I love the warm tones… it adds a cosiness to the bedroom, despite the open plan nature.
“The Panneau feature wall has also worked so well to create a striking full height wall that brings both levels together as one.”
