Owners of a modern new build in Manchester add Zigzag Tannery Brown Herringbone floors

ZB106 Tannery Brown

This beautiful and bright new build house, located in the Manchester suburb of Didsbury, is home to Mariam and her husband. They completed on the new home in September, and despite the developer offering a package to include flooring and wall decoration throughout the home, the couple decided they wanted to put their own stamp on these finishes. Mariam explained, Whilst we loved everything about the style and layout of the home, and the well specified kitchen and bathroom finishes, my husband and I both agreed it would be nice to choose flooring that would suit our own taste so we could add our own character into the home.

“The downstairs has a really nice flow through from the entrance hallway, into the kitchen and across to the main living space, and we loved the idea of a single wood floor finish running throughout the ground floor.”

Keen to find the perfect wood floor they started researching online and were quickly sold on the modern herringbone styles they saw. Our taste is quite minimalist and we wanted to paint the rooms white to keep them bright and contemporary, so I felt that this style of wood floor would add a layer of texture and contrast to the downstairs spaces. Searching herringbone wood floors online, Mariam found the Deco Parquet wood floor collection on the V4 website and ordered free samples.

“I looked at some of the real life installation pictures of Deco Parquet floors featured on their website and loved their appearance. When the samples arrived I instantly warmed to Tannery Brown. It had such a lovely warm colour with beautiful oak texture and grains in the surface. It was perfect to add the character and contrast we wanted to achieve on the floors.”

Deco Parquet Tannery Brown is an engineered oak block with a bevel edged European oak wear layer, which is bonded to a hardwood ply base to form tongue and groove profile oak blocks. The Tannery Brown finish is warm in tone, created with the application of coloured oils which are UV cured to build up a natural protective surface, and the blocks have distinctive grains, marks and distressing which gives the surface an authentic oak aesthetic. Mariam came across online flooring retailer Carpets and More, a local Didsbury company who are approved retailers of V4 Wood Flooring, where she ordered the floors and found a local fitter to complete the installation. Installation took five days from start to finish. A damp proof membrane was installed before the complete ground floor was screeded. Once dry, installation of the tongue and groove oak blocks began. The finished floor design runs seamlessly through all of the spaces without transitions or breaks giving a beautiful natural flow to the home.

“We absolutely love the finished floor. It has a contemporary yet timeless feel and adds just the right amount of warmth and contrast to the rest of the interior design. It also blends really nicely with the oak veneer doors, tiled feature wall in the lounge and our bright yellow chair from Ikea. When natural light floods the space the natural oak grains of the wood blocks look stunning.”

“The floors have also been super easy to keep clean. We just vacuum regularly and give them an occasional clean with the Wood’s Good cleaning spray and mop, also from V4, which is so easy to use. We get plenty of compliments from visitors about the flooring so I know we have made the right choice. Our home looks lovely now they are complete.”
