Having maintained a very traditional local pub offer and style two friends purchased it from Adnams Brewery in the summer 2015 with a view to modernising the pub and creating a venue that was both popular for eating and drinking, and also suitable for families and visitors to the sailing town.
The pub was closed for three months while the refurbishment took place. Justin Cracknell, one of the pubs partners explained,
“The pub had the opportunity to offer the community a more modern venue that could provide both a welcoming place to enjoy a drink, but also enjoy good food in a more family orientated setting. To achieve this we opened up a new walkway from the main entrance that led to a separate dining area away from the main open bar space.
“The existing interior was very tired and the old carpets definitely needed replacing, so we put together a completely new interior design scheme and furniture style which would reflect a timeless, traditional feel whilst creating a welcoming, comfortable and modern pub setting.”
The pair were keen to have an easy to clean and maintain wood floor throughout the bar and dining room, and having browsed the V4 wood floor collections were drawn to Urban Nature.
“To blend with the collection of classic wood furniture and fittings we had already selected we were looking for a slightly darker toned wood floor that would be full of character but not overly rustic. The finish of this Urban Nature engineered oak panel looked great, and complemented the other wood furniture and wall colours we had already selected perfectly.”
The Urban Nature collection combines a rich texture oak top layer that offers a traditional style which has the appearance of an aged plank for character and authenticity, then applies colouring techniques which produce a contemporary colour finish.
The oak top layer has been given a deep lustre with the application of different colour oils which are UV cured to build up a natural protective surface and also make it durable for a high footfall.
The pub reopened in November and both the rejuvenated bar and new dining room are proving a popular destination for locals, families and visitors to the town.
“We are delighted with the success of the pub so far, and the modern yet classic approach to the interior style has been really well received. The wood floor still looks like new, even with the heavy footfall, and we have been following the cleaning and maintenance methods recommended by V4 so it keeps looking this good for years to come.”
