Katy Mepham and her family have lived in their Kingston-upon-Thames family home for over ten years. Four years ago they completed an extension, with Katy masterminding the design for an open plan kitchen and living space that has become the heart of the home.
Originally finishing the extension with a tiled floor, Katy recently decided to upgrade the ground floor of the property with a contemporary wood floor finish throughout and is delighted with the results.
“We loved the finished extension but I never felt completely happy with the tiles we chose, or the combination of these tiles with the older wood floors used for the rest of the ground floor. Having contacted my builder to discuss my aspirations for a new floor he dropped off a sample of V4’s Urban Nature Oak Rustic Wharf Grey wood floor and I was immediately sold on it.”
“I loved the grey tones that ran through the wood. It’s fashionable and a bit different from the more traditional oak wood floors we had looked at. Our living space is very clean and neutral so the subtle grey edge of the wood provides a perfect contrast to our white kitchen units and walls.”
V4 Woodflooring’s Urban Nature Oak Rustic Wharf Grey floor is hand finished, stained and then UV oiled. The surface of the board is rolled with steel brushes to emphasise the natural grain of the oak surface, and the top layer is given a deep grey lustre with the application of natural colour oils that are then UV cured for a natural and durable surface finish.
The Urban Nature boards have a 4mm oak wear layer backed on an ultra stable multi-layered ply base which makes them ideal for underfloor heating. This collection is also 100% FSC® certified using only responsibly sourced timber.
Katy went on to say,
“The results are great and our visitors are always full of compliments about how the floor looks. And with two children and a cat in our busy family home the floor is also durable and easy to maintain, much easier to keep clean than the tiles we had. Having one uniform floor throughout the downstairs has also created a much more free flowing feel to our home. We love it.”
