Driftwood in Fjordic Shore creates the perfect contemporary floor finish in Epsom new build apartments

AL103 Fjordic Shore

Oak View is a stunning new apartment development located in the heart of Epsom, Surrey. The high end apartments feature Alpine Lock in Fjordic Shore, chosen for their contemporary grey oak tones. The project was masterminded by Epsom property developer Zestan Limited, a building consultancy that strive to deliver innovative ideas and designs applied to both large scale residential property developments along with smaller construction projects. Oaks View is one of their premium projects. The development consists of 23 contemporary one, two and three bedroom apartments, including seven three bedroom penthouses, located to offer the best of suburban living. Being just a short stroll away from the bustling High Street of Epsom, combined with close proximity to both the centre of London and the Surrey countryside, the design of the apartments centred around modern open plan living that would appeal to locals and commuters. With construction of the first phase underway, the developer contacted their go to flooring specialist, Alan Marshall from Carpet Contractors. Alan explains,:

“I’ve been working with Zestan for quite a few years, recommending, sourcing and installing all types of flooring across their wide range of projects. This one was an exciting brief. When they showed me the plans for the development I could see they were striving to create ultra modern homes that had no compromise when it came to space and specification."

“Their brief to me was quite simple. They wanted high-quality wood floors that had a scandi feel about them with some contemporary grey oak tones. When a client gives me a design concept and brief I don’t bombard them with floors, they trust me to select the best examples that will meet their brief.”

“I’ve been working with V4 wood floors for years and absolutely love their quality and ease of installation, and while I knew there were a few grey toned options in their collections that would meet the brief I had a feeling Driftwood Fjordic Shore would be the perfect fit. When I showed the team they all agreed.”

Driftwood is a collection of European Oak floors where the oak surface is lightly brushed to enhance the rustic grain before being sealed with a water-based natural lacquer. The micro bevelled top layer is precision milled and backed onto a 5Gc glueless locking system for simple and versatile installation. The Fjordic Shore finish starts from a light oak base with cooler grey tones accentuating the oak grains to create a smooth and contemporary finish that is naturally light and space enhancing, whilst oozing modernity. The wood floors have been installed throughout all 23 apartments. The aim was for a seamless floor finish that would run throughout all of the spaces, with just the bathrooms having a different tiled finish.

“All of the apartments centre around a generous opening plan living space with large windows and patio doors flooding the rooms with plenty of natural light and providing beautiful views out to private terraces and the surrounding green landscape. I pretty much completed the install single-handedly. Each apartment took around two days. The wood floors were going over underfloor heating and I used the Woods Good Eco Gold underlay, made from recycled car tyres, which is designed to support and cushion the flooring and the gold foil vapour barrier protects against the possibility of rising moisture.”

“As I always find with V4’s floors the installation process was really straightforward with minimum wastage. As soon as the first apartment was finished the developer and I both agreed we’d made the right choice. The modern light tones were perfect for the contemporary interior design concept they wanted in the new homes.”

The finished floors provide a modern backdrop which reflects all the natural light which floods into the spaces. Bespoke German designed open plan kitchens provide a dark grey contrast and feature a white Blanco Zeus Silestone worktop. Walls are kept neutral with a mix of Matt White and Grey Wisp and oak doors and chrome finishes add to the high-end specification. Super smart and stylish, the apartments are selling fast and new owners will benefit from high quality, long-lasting wood floors which deliver a contemporary edge throughout the homes.
