A rural bungalow adds the modern rustic charm of Eiger Oak Rustic engineered wood floors

EC103 Oak Brushed & Oiled

This charming bungalow is situated in the small village of Wittersham in Kent. The new owners fell in love with the property and its rural location and moved in this summer. The home was in very good condition and owners, David and Sue Lingham, liked the clean neutral décor and fixtures already in place, so all that was left on their to do list for the home was install new flooring throughout the ground floor. David explained, "When we viewed the property we loved it. The view from the main lounge looks across the garden and out to a paddock and fields beyond, full of Sussex cows. When you look out you feel as though you could be in the middle of nowhere, but the house also has a lovely spot in the village. The home offered plenty of space for us, having been extended several times in the past including creating two extra bedrooms, and having previously been rented out the décor had been given a clean and neutral feel which suited our taste."

"Our only issue was the old and dark Lino on the floors which we really didn’t like, so new flooring was the only major item we wanted to change before we got too settled in."

The couple had wood flooring in their previous home and were keen to install the same real wood floor finish in this house. Starting the search they visited some local flooring retailers to look at their options. We discovered the V4 collection in one of the shops we visited and were impressed with the range of oak tones on offer. Viewing them we decided we wanted something mid-tone, so not too light or dark. We did more research on the V4 website and decided the Eiger collection offered the style of wood floor we were looking for; traditional oak planks that had a contemporary feel, and would also be very hard wearing. The Eiger Collection was born from the idea of creating engineered wood flooring that gives the same robust feel as solid wood floors. The planks are made from a thick wear layer of European Oak and the collection offers everything from classic oak styles to modern grey wood floors and lighter white tones.

“We wanted a single surface throughout the ground floor to create a natural flow and enhance the feeling of space, and eventually decided on the Eiger Oak Rustic Brushed and Oiled surface as the natural oak colour and character would add a little bit of rustic contrast throughout the home.”

Having decided on their choice the couple sourced the wood floors from online retailer Oakwoods Flooring. “We had lots of contact with James from Oakwoods throughout the process. He was extremely helpful as we had lots of questions about measuring up and trim and beading options to make sure we got a neat finish where the floors were running through different rooms and around existing features. With the floors ordered David spoke to a local carpenter who had already completed some work for him on the property and he returned to complete the installation of the new wood floors. The existing Lino was sound and level, so all that was needed was some new underlay and the Eiger floors were ready to install. The whole process was completed in under a week. Our carpenter, Jamie Bryant, did a fantastic job. We wanted to avoid any messy transitions as the wood floors flow through the different rooms, and the finish is seamless. It makes the home feel so light and spacious.”

“We are so pleased with the results. We were lucky to find a home in such a fantastic location that needed very little work, apart from new flooring. Now that the Eiger wood floors are completed the whole home feels modernised and finished to our taste.

“We love the colour of the oak, it adds a bit of contrast to the home and the planks have a beautiful rustic oak grain. They combine so naturally with the white walls, kitchen design and wood burner that was all here when we moved in. All we’ve had to do since is add our own furniture and soft furnishings, and now there is nothing like relaxing in the lounge looking out to the cows and beautiful countryside.”
