Eiger Oak Rustic Matt Lacquered wood floors chosen to give this Woking home a fresh makeover
Most of the downstairs spaces previously had vinyl floors and Vanessa was keen to find real wood floors to replace them. She explains, The old floors had been fine to live with but were starting to feel a bit dated and I loved the idea of replacing them with real wood floors.
“Key to my brief was finding something quite classic, that had rustic charm but was also light and modern. I also wanted larger sized planks to really enhance the feeling of space to the downstairs of the home.”
“My son actually went to school with one of V4 Wood Flooring’s owners so he was fast to recommend them and suggested I visit their new design centre, V4 World in Woking. V4 World is a new design destination where you can experience our full range of contemporary floor and wall products in a brand new way. The 6,000 sq ft showroom has been designed to bring to life the creative possibilities of our floor and wall solutions. The showroom features over 500 products including both V4’s stocked and bespoke wood floor collections. It was great to be able to view all the large samples in the showroom. I couldn’t quite believe how many options there were to choose from. We found ourselves leaning towards the Eiger collection and then it was a case of choosing which one. The team explained the differences to some of the surface finishes which helped us decide on the Oak Rustic Matt Lacquered planks as the durable lacquered surface would make the floors very low maintenance which appealed to us. 
Eiger Oak Rustic and Matt Lacquered wood floors are finished with a low maintenance lacquer which keeps the surface protected from stains and wear. The generously sized planks’ light oak surface and large boards create a feeling of space whilst delivering subtle character and oak texture.
“I loved how the boards combined both a modern feel but still had rustic charm. I was keen to have quite a clean and neutral palette as part of the home makeover and I felt that the floors would add just the right amount of warmth and texture into the design.”
Vanessa ordered the floors from Rob at Past and Present Flooring who also completed the installation. I have to say they were absolutely fantastic. Their attention to detail was so impressive offering us lots of advice from the levelling work required to get a seamless finish to where our mats should be positioned to reduce any risk of damage to the floors. They completed the job in stages as they had to apply and let a new screed dry before returning to install the wood floors in the hallway, kitchen and dining space, downstairs cloakroom and utility room. All together it took about four days to complete and we are delighted with our new floors. 
The new floors have been complemented with freshly painted walls and new skirting creating a modern and smart finish to the downstairs spaces.
“With everything done the house feels so much brighter and the new floors have created a natural flow between the different rooms. I love that they have rustic character, which I’m sure will also make them very forgiving, but having gone for the matt lacquered surface they really are living up to family life and footfall so well.”

EC101 Hillside Oak
Thick coats of matt drying lacquer varnish are applied over long wide boards of EC101 Hillside Oak to accentuate the smooth sanded hand filled rustic surface that is full of natural oak character. Giving the same robust feel under foot as a solid floor but with a far more economical use of the precious hardwood top layer. The planks use a thick wear layer of European oak and are backed on an ultra stable hardwood multi ply tongue & grooved base.
