The detached home is a contemporary new build owned by David Williams and his family. One of four detached homes built by a small local developer, the home was sold completed to only concrete sub-floor level so the new owners could choose their own flooring finish.
David explained, “We loved the style of house and it actually worked really well for us that the floors weren’t complete as we would have wanted to choose our own finish anyway. We knew we wanted real wood floors as we had delayed installing them in our old house as we knew it was likely we were going to move soon as our two young boys were growing up fast.
“Friends recommended V4 Wood Flooring to us so we browsed their website and were impressed with the choice of styles and finishes. We were leaning towards a darker tone of wood to add some contrast to the neutral white walls and white kitchen and ordered a handful of samples of their darker toned floors.”
“As soon as they arrived the tone and texture of Furrowed Hill stood out to us. It had a lovely unique dark character, really warm and earthy and full of natural oak grain – it had the rustic feel we wanted to contrast with the new build elements of the home.”
The Landscapes collection was created around a vision to bring nature inside on an impressive scale, Landscapes comprises beautiful extra wide boards produced with hand rendered European Oak full of distinctive grains and charm.
Each of Landscapes four colour finishes were inspired by the natural scenes embedded in our organic landscape, Furrowed Hill taking inspiration from the deep earthy hues distinguishable on the UK’s hillsides.
The surface of each board is hand scraped, planed and distressed, following the natural contours of the oak, delivering the darker rustic aged feel David was looking for.
The wood floors have been installed throughout the ground floor of the homes main living spaces, which comprises an entrance hallway leading into a full width open plan living, kitchen and dining room at the rear of the home, and completing the cloakroom and utility room.
Installation was completed in under three days with Wood’s Good Eco-Gold Underlay, made from recycled tyre rubber and featuring a gold foil moisture barrier, installed directly over the concrete sub-floor before the wood floors were laid. The original skirting was carefully removed and re-installed to provide a neat finish to the new floors.
“The unique dark tones deliver the wow factor and we are so pleased with the end results. They are always the first thing visitors comment on when they arrive. They deliver such an impressive quality and the larger size of the wood boards really enhances the feeling of space.
“They are lovely to live with, feel warm underfoot and are really stable, plus they are standing up to the footfall of two young children perfectly. We’ve finally got the wood floors we were waiting for after waiting to move into our bigger family home.”
