DNA Architecture, based in Wimbledon, specialise in contemporary residential design.

Completing projects ranging from new builds to loft conversions and extensions to basements, the team of RIBA qualified architects apply their skill and vision to not only designing amazing spaces, but also in selecting the finest materials and finishes so every project is completed to the highest standards and visual outcome.

DNA has recently completed two new build projects which not only feature stand-out residential design, but also V4’s Eiger Phoenix Oak Rustic Brushed & Grey Oiled wood flooring.

The first is a home in Wandsworth, London. Located on the end of a terrace of Victorian houses, the new build project replaced a 50’s two-up, two-down that had been built on a former bomb site.

The front of the house was kept in keeping with the traditional terraced houses, however behind this the house was completely reconfigured and extended to create a large contemporary home with open plan living, hoards of natural light and exemplary design features.

Spread across 4 floors, the property now features a large bespoke kitchen and entertainment space, a custom-built basement wine cellar, living room, media room plus 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.

Daryll Westen from DNA specified the use of Eiger Phoenix engineered wood floors throughout the living spaces and on the dramatic stairwell that now runs throughout the core of the home.

“This was a fabulous project. The extension and reconfiguration that took place behind the original frontage transformed the home. It was very important to the design that the new living spaces were finished with a floor which would connect the open plan layout and promote the space and light we created.

“I’ve used V4 floors in the past and have always been extremely impressed with their high quality and good value. I was particularly drawn to the Eiger Phoenix Grey Oiled floors for this project because of the subtle grain and contemporary tones it delivers.”

Eiger Phoenix wood floors are produced from rustic oak planks that have been smooth sanded and sealed with coats of translucent grey oil. The effect is a muted natural shade which highlights the natural grain and variation of the hardwood surface. The subtle air cured finish is wonderfully tactile and works particularly well with muted colour schemes and accent colours.

Delighted with the results, and his client’s response, Daryll went on to specify the same wood floors in their award winning new build in Guildford, Surrey – Trelawne.

The brief from DNA’s clients was to demolish an existing 1960’s chalet on the plot and create a large, contemporary home that would maximise the stunning views from the front of the property out across the Surrey Downs.

The finished 4,200 sq ft new build home features a modern façade which encases five bedrooms, four bathrooms, an open living space and a gym over three generously sized storeys.

Set in an elevated position in one of Guildford’s most prestigious roads, the design utilised full height windows and private balconies to take advantage of the setting and distant views.

For this project the team specified Eiger Phoenix wood flooring throughout the bedrooms.

“We selected wood floors for the bedrooms as a perfect way to bring a little bit of nature into the home and interact with the stunning countryside views outside. The soft oak finish and subtle tones are ideal in the bedrooms, producing a warm, natural feel, both aesthetically and underfoot.”
