Urban Nature Limehouse White wood floors promote space and light in quaint Hampshire cottage

Sheena Haylock, her husband and 18 month old Cavapoo Lucy moved into this quaint thatched cottage in 2016. Some 350 years old, with a water reed roof and original features, the home is situated in historic Old Basing with its links back to the Doomsday Book and Oliver Cromwell. When they bought the property they were aware of some damp issues so knew some cosmetic upgrades would be needed, but went ahead as they were keen to put their own stamp on the property anyway. "We’d lived in a cottage previously and love the charm they offer. Most of the work we had to do on this one was cosmetic. We did add a new fireplace, built by a local carpenter as a new centre piece in the lounge where an old inglenook had been part covered so couldn’t be restored. I also wanted to mute down the dark beams to create a more natural and light feel in the living spaces, especially as the ceilings are low." The property had very tired carpets throughout the downstairs living spaces and Sheena was keen to see these go quickly and replace them with new engineered wood floors.

"I love wood floors and went back to the company who had supplied and installed them in our last house, Boston Floors. Graham knows me and my taste well and was happy to take my brief and come up with a suitable option. I wanted a modern oak finish that looked natural with subtle character. I also had a preference for a nice wide plank with an oiled finish to enhance space and natural light in the cottage."

“Graham showed us Urban Nature Oak Rustic Limehouse White wood floors. They had the perfect mix of oak character and light, muted tones, almost beach like.”

The 4mm oak top layer of Urban Nature Limehouse White is hand finished to give a distinctive and individual surface which is then stained and sealed with 3 coats of natural oil for a hardwearing floor offering softer tones. Installed by Boston Floors, the floors have been laid to the porch, lounge, dining room and snug in the cottage. Combined with the light paint treatment applied to the originally black beams, and soft greys used on the walls, the result is a perfect combination of country charm with cosy, contemporary touches. We are really pleased with the floors, they flow through each space very naturally and have been really easy to look after. Lucy is happy too and spends hours playing with her toys on the new floors, which are also really hardwearing and easy to clean. Next on the list is new wood floors upstairs and we will definitely be returning to the V4 collection to find the perfect floors for our bedrooms.
