Key to the success of the design was flooring choice as the owner, Ellen Leon explains, “We wanted to update the home with both interior styles and high quality finishes that would last for years. I also wanted to balance contemporary with a traditional feel that wouldn’t date, mixing in some of the classic antique pieces we own alongside more modern looks.
“We knew we wanted wood flooring throughout the downstairs spaces so they would flow naturally and the floor would be long lasting and easy to maintain. It also had to be engineered as we were keen to install underfloor heating to maintain a minimalist, clean line feel without radiators.”
Having researched several wood floor companies online, Ellen was drawn to V4 Woodflooring, impressed by the choice and quality of the engineered hardwood floors available.
“I wanted a darker coloured floor that would look a bit different from standard oak, and viewing the V4 website I could see their collection offered a complete range of styles and tones.
“We visited our local V4 Approved Retailer, Tyne Flooring in Sandhurst, to view the collection first-hand and Urban Nature Oak Rustic Tannery Brown stood out to us, offering rich dark tones combined with traditional rustic oak charm.”
The surface of Urban Nature Tannery Brown boards is given various treatments including cross sawing and hand scraping with traditional tools, using timber that has been selected for its character filled knots and natural blemishes.
The top layer of each plank is then filled and sanded to leave open knots which give the appearance of an aged and weathered plank, and finally the wood is given a deep lustre with the application of coloured oils which are UV cured to build up a natural protective surface.
“The floors were also installed by Tyne Flooring, who were excellent throughout the process, they did a brilliant job. We are so delighted with the finished wood floors and they finish off all the hard work we underwent to upgrade our home superbly.”
“It’s already clear the wood floor will be really hard wearing, and we absolutely love both the width of the boards and their rich, dark coloured textures.”
