Urban Sunset in Plank and Herringbone styles feature in Surrey home makeover, along with Panneau Cask

Our latest installation story is from a beautiful family home in Chobham, Surrey. A large detached house built in the 1950’s, Kerry and her family had lived there for almost ten years and decided it was time to do another round of decorating.

Kerry explained, “We had styled the house to our taste when we moved in, but it was starting to look a bit dated and we were keen to bring it up to date again. Our needs had changed over the years too, as our family had grown to include three children and four dogs, so we needed to choose finishes and styles that would not only look good, but stand up to the daily wear and tear of a busy family home.”

The family were keen to keep a fairly neutral palette, adding key feature pieces that would stand out and add interior interest. “The house already has some lovely feature pieces including wooden beams to the family room and feature metal finishes to the entrance hall stairs and some of the doors and windows. The flooring was tired in these spaces and we wanted to use a single finish which would harmonise the rooms.”

Keen to install wood flooring they began to research their options. “When I saw the Deco collection from V4 I was instantly drawn to the soft tones the woods offered, they had a lovely modern feel about them, whilst still maintaining an authentic oak character.”

I particularly liked Urban Sunset, it had a really unique oak colouring. Warm, but without being too dark, and the lighter grains added beautiful soft detail to the planks.

Ready to order Deco Urban Sunset, they also noticed this same finish was available as herringbone blocks in V4’s Zigzag collection. Adding their own element of interior flair, the family decided to use the herringbone blocks in the entrance hallway and wood planks in the family room.

“It was a great decision. The finish is the same throughout but the herringbone pattern has added a little bit of extra detail to the main entrance of our home, whereas the planks work in creating a more calm and space enhancing feel to the family room.”

The final bit of detail was the decision to clad their feature fireplace with V4’s Panneau Cask decorative wall panels. Made from recycled wood originally used in old wine barrels, the interlocking panels are ideal to create eye catching feature walls. Due to the recycled nature of the product, each panel is distinctive and original, and features variations in tone and colour.

“The last piece of the jigsaw in our makeover was the feature fireplace wall. We chose Panneau Cask because the darker tones were the perfect contrast to the floor and the rest of the décor. Having a wood surface on this wall also brings everything else together so well.

“We also discovered some huge practical benefits of using it where the television is wall mounted. We have been able to hide lots of the cables behind the panels which means it will be a lot easier if we ever need to get to them in the future and we won’t have to damage plastered walls.”

“It’s been a hectic few months getting to our finished house but we all love the end results. The floors have been really good to live with and easy to clean using Wood’s Good, even with our four dogs. It can be a hectic house at times but the finished décor and floors have had the right affect and create a naturally calming feel to our home.”
