Our winter competition certainly got the creative juices flowing as we asked you to come up with a name for the final wood finish in our new contemporary DECO range.
We had hundreds of entries and were really impressed with the quality and creativity, making for a tough judging session.
After much deliberation the panel selected Frozen Umber, suggested by John Perkins from Mid Glamorgan in Wales. The fitting suggestion was described by John as;
“Frozen Umber is inspired from cold winter days when rich warm tones of umber coloured earth have been frosted over. All these elements are prominent in the strong character of these beautiful oak floors.”
Congratulation to John, who wins £1000.00 of wood flooring from the DECO collection, and Frozen Umber officially joins the other five DECO woods.
With so many great entries we wanted to share some which came very close to being chosen – here are ten highly commended entries.
Lisa Parry, Victorian Vintage – Reminds me of beautiful old floors in Edinburgh houses that I’ve seen, the wood has a worn loved look of quality and warmth.
Melissa Nuttall, Atlantic Drift – The flooring has the warmth and character of driftwood and the blue tones of the Atlantic Ocean.
Murray Watt, Himalayan Dusk – Oaks grow slower and stronger in the cold climates such as mountainous Himalayas, this conjures up images of distant, ancient strengths. Dusk is meant to reflect the rustic, darker finish that is given to the timber.
Patricia Lee, Autumn Walk – The colour and texture reminds me of autumnal walks in the woods.
Gregory Daines, Salted Oak – The wood looks like it has spent time being weathered by the big blue, only to be stumbled upon, dragged to a workshop and planed and waxed to bring oak, kissed by the ocean, into a warm coastal home.
Claire Farley, French Farmhouse – I think this would look amazing in a little French farmhouse; it has such a natural look to it that is chic and would adorn my home.
Steve Pleau, Amber Swirl – The lighter areas have a lovely amber hue and the natural grain of the wood has a swirling motion.
Mairi Brown, Rustic Sundown – I chose the name Rustic Sundown because it evokes a warm, snug feeling. A beautiful floor to relax on at the end of the day.
Laura Morris, Rustic Retreat – The flooring looks slightly more rustic than the other finishes but lovely and warm like a retreat. Log fire, hot chocolate and this floor would finish the scene beautifully.
Heather Weir, Twilight Forest – The natural tones of this wood were reminiscent of a beautiful peaceful forest. I imagined walking through the forest in the twilight and feeling very calm and enjoying the landscape.
