What is Engineered Wood Flooring?

All engineered wood flooring starts with a sturdy base of layered plywood, which in the case of our Driftwood collection is then cut with secure lock system fittings around each plank. Then comes the top layer (which we call a ‘lamella’) which is made from high-grade European oak, and is finally micro-bevelled on four sides to give a smooth and seamless look when connected.

Finally, our skilled team of craftspeople in Yorkshire step in to brush and treat the oak surface, depending on the tone and texture we want to achieve – for example, the Driftwood collection wears our UV lacquer, which provides brilliant all-round protection and an unbeatable look.

Why You Should Choose Our Driftwood Range

Sustainably Made

All the timber we use, from our European oak to our multi-ply base, is sourced from FSC-approved managed woodlands. These plots are specifically cultivated to meet supply demand without harming the surrounding ecosystem. Each tree is monitored and treated for signs of ill growth and disease spread, which ensures a high yield for every crop.

For every tree that is taken, several fast-growing saplings are planted in its place, which feeds the cycle and ensures our environmental impact is kept at an all-time low.

Engineered wood flooring is the most eco-friendly alternative to hardwood, which is why we have chosen to specialise in it.

Ready for Anything

Our Driftwood collection can be laid just about anywhere in your home. The signature layered composition allows for maximum flexibility and resilience against harsh temperature shifts and fluctuating humidity levels.

This means that our range can also be set down over most modern underfloor heating systems, both electrical and hydronic.

Long-Lasting

Like ship’s timber made for rough seas or ocean-facing woodwork, our Driftwood engineered wood flooring is unmatched in its robustness. We carefully select the best cuts of oak timber, which will naturally mature and strengthen with age.

The wood’s natural hardiness, combined with our impenetrable UV lacquer finishes, creates a flooring type that can handle anything.

FAQs
Where to buy V4 engineered wood flooring?

Our range is stocked by a huge amount of retailers, spanning every corner of the UK. You can search ‘V4 Wood Flooring’ into your internet browser and locate a V4-approved supplier near you, or use our new stockist locator here.

The best ways to prepare for my wood flooring installation?

Engineered wooden boards need time to properly acclimatise in your home before they can be laid. So finish off any leftover building work, and then let the boards sit in their original packaging for at least one day. This will allow the wood to naturally settle into the new internal temperatures and humidity.

If this step is skipped, your new floors may warp and even crack once they have been installed.

Can I install V4 engineered wood flooring myself?

For the best quality results, it is best if you rely on qualified professionals to lay your new floors. Some engineered wood will need certain underlay, and some underfloors are more complicated to manoeuvre around – especially those with underfloor heating systems installed.

Contact your V4 retailer for advice on their installation process ahead of time.

What is the best way to look after my new wood floors?

Our Driftwood engineered wood flooring is simple to fit and look after. Aside from generally keeping the area tidy by sweeping and vacuuming regularly, as you should with any type of flooring, you can elevate your approach further by:

  • Not wearing outdoor footwear inside
  • Applying foam pads to the contact points of furniture
  • Mopping spillages prompt and not leaving them to sit
  • Choosing cleaning products tailored to engineered wood
  • Not using abrasive cleaning or maintenance equipment

Note: Avoid the use of steam cleaners, as they can damage the surface of the wood.
